Dr. John Lee Awarded National Grant for Emergency AI Project
Dr. John H. Lee, MD, PhD, of BIDMC and Harvard Medical School has been awarded the NFEM Scholar Program 2026 to develop an AI-driven, video-based system for continuously and objectively assessing respiratory distress in the emergency department.

In new research by Brodeur et al., the OpenAI o1 large language model was tested directly against hundreds of physicians across diagnostic and management tasks—from published vignettes to brand-new ER patients—outperforming both human physicians and older models and pointing to its potential utility in clinical care.
